Finley's biggest flaw is that he has a bit of a hero complex. If someone is in trouble, he'll do whatever he can to help them and get them out of the situation. This doesn't matter if their mundane, downworlder, or a fellow shadowhunter. This usually gets him into a lot of trouble among his peers. That being said, he doesn't really care about the consequences because he sees that he's making the world a better place by helping.
Another flaw is that he's rather impulsive. He's not one to think about consequences for his actions. Fin will do something and then later on apologize for it. It's how he's always lived his life, and he doesn't see that changing in the future. In his mind, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.
Finley also has a habit of bottling up his darker feelings. It's easier to compartmentalize his emotions than to actually feel them when he's working. Being a shadowhunter, he feels this is the most important thing to do because of death and killing of demons or dangerous downworlders threatening to expose the shadow world. If he bottles things, he doesn't have to live with the guilt of having done some of the things he's done. Of course, this leads to lashing out when those emotions finally come to the surface.
Though he has his flaws, Fin is a rather great guy. He has a huge heart that shows in the way that he'd do anything for those in danger. Fin cares deeply about people even if he doesn't show it through his words or actions. It's hard when he lives a dangerous life and doesn't know if today will be his last.
When he's in a good mood, he shows this by joking around or making snarky comments. Finley's not a loud guy. He just tends to be talkative around his friends and quiet around those that he doesn't know unable to really relate to them with his shadowhunter blood. Fin's always ready for a good time whether it's a fight or a simple going out with friends. A man of action. Fin's not able to really sit still. He's never been able to since he was a boy. Even when standing still, his fingers will be moving. This is why he's always up for sparring or a wander around the city to see what trouble he can get into.
Then there's a part of him that no one's seen of him before. Finley Stormwood is a secret romantic. He's not one for casual relationships. In fact, he's never really been with a woman in his life. The young man is waiting for the woman that makes time seem to stand still or for there to be that spark between them. The spark that his father told him about his mother. It's something that's he's been hoping for even as he's getting older. All he wants is someone that can really make him feel that butterflies in his stomach. He's not met that woman yet but he's still hopeful.
All in all, Finley is a normalish guy that's seen a lot in his life. All he wants to do is make it to the next. With his determination and drive, there's nothing he can't do once his mind is set to it. Does this get him in trouble? Yes, but does he care? No. All he wants is to make his mother proud.
Born the only son of Victor and Miriam Stormwood, Finley has a weight of a family legacy on his shoulders. His father was proud to have a son to carry on the family name while his mother was just happy to have a healthy baby boy. His childhood was one of normality for a shadowhunter. There was schooling and a bit of training before he was sent to the academy at the age of twelve. Finley will never forget the day that his parents sent him off for his first day. The look of pride in their eyes. It's one that he tries to keep there to this day.
His academy life was rather normal. Finley excelled in most subjects though his speciality was Demonic languages. In fact, he excelled in all languages. It was almost like second nature to him to pick up French and then German. Finley enjoyed conversing in different languages. When he graduated at eighteen, Finley was at a bit of a loss at what to do with himself. His friends were going off to other institutes around the world, and he didn't really know what to do with himself. What institute would be the best fit for him?
Then his father died during an assignment leaving the weight of his family name on his shoulders. His mother was distraught and was hoping that he would stay in Idris. Unfortunately, Finley knew that he needed to go out on his own. His father's death had spurred him into a decision. Six months after graduating. New York would be a nice fit for him. He'd be able to be around those his age while also bettering his combat skills. Plus, he wouldn't have to worry about his mother hovering about his safety.
Finley left Idris for the first time since his birth traveling to America. It was in New York that he made his home. The institute was a good fit, and they had plenty of things for him to do including a fight with demons. All in all, he's enjoying his time there and the people around him that seemed to understand him.
