The Shadow World is full of whispers and rumours that Valentine Morgenstern, renegade Shadowhunter, is alive and well. Not only that but speculation is spreading that the cunning Nephilim is searching for one of the most revered treasures of the Shadowhunter world - the Mortal Cup. With it, he could create an army that would make his former Circle look like a group of missionless fanatics.
But the Clave are prepared. For years they have been summoning the second born of Shadowhunter families and training them especially as part of an Anti-Circle organization. If Valentine tries to recruit his old followers again, the Clave will be ready, and this time the Circle would be fighting against their own children....
Pointless, needless suffering and pain? I don’t suppose it would help if I told you that was the way life is. The good suffer, the evil flourish, and all that is mortal passes away.

High Warlock of Brooklyn
Magnus is of Indonesian descent with warm, caramel colored skin and a youthful appearance due to the fact that he stopped aging around nineteen years old. He stands quite tall at six foot two, and has a naturally lean build. His hair is naturally black though it is hardly uncommon to find parts of it dyed with whatever color he has been feeling in that moment. In recent years he has kept his hair on the shorter side—though still plenty enough to grab onto—and styles it to look effortlessly messy, or occasionally spiked. His eyes are a yellow-green color with slitted pupils. They are essentially cat’s eyes, and are one of his two warlock marks. The other is his lack of a belly button. In most cases however, Magnus will glamour his eyes to appear dark brown in color as not to draw attention to them—at least in that manner.
As a whole, Magnus has rather aristocratic features. He has dark, expressive brows and high cheekbones that lend to this look. His jaw is squared in a more masculine way that the rest of his features, and in attempts to look a bit older, he does allow himself to occasionally forgo shaving to add a shadow of scruff along his jaw line and around his lips. His lips on their own are rather full—the lower one slightly more so than the upper—and shaped in Cupid’s bow. More often than not they are curled into an amused sort of smirk as his true smiles are less often seen.
What truly tends to stand out about Magnus though is how he dresses himself. His fashion choices are bold. They demand attention, and they should. He is after all the High Warlock of Brooklyn. Magnus is a fan of bold colors, shirts that leave little to the imagination, and pants that cling to him like a second skin. He is usually found wearing jewelry as well—at the minimum he has cuffs on both ears and rings on his fingers. It is not uncommon to find him wearing bracelets or necklaces either though. He is also a fan of makeup. He is rarely seen without eyeliner and enjoys applying glitter around his eyes and lip gloss on his lips. He is unapologetically himself in this regard and prefers to look flawless regardless of the situation.
Magnus is an incredibly complex individual though perhaps that is simply the result of living life for as long as he has. At a glance he can come off as vain and self-serving. He won’t deny the former or the latter because in truth he prefers that people think him to be more callous that he actually is. He likes to maintain a distance between himself and others. Magnus wants the option to be able to walk away from things, or at least that is what he would claim if pressed. The truth though is far from that black and white. While he can in fact walk away from problems that are not his own, it isn’t something that he is able to do easily. He feels fall too deeply to be truly indifferent towards the plights of others.
Beneath all of his bravado and claims of selfishness, there is a compassion that can be somewhat surprising to those who don’t truly know him. Magnus is the sort of person who puts his heart into what he does. He falls in love perhaps too quickly and too deeply—something that has hurt him multiple times in the past. He doesn’t seem to have a middle-ground. He is indifferent towards a person, or he will attempt to move the world for them. He’s an incredible ally in that regard. He’s loyal to the people that he lets into his life, and often seems to inspire that same loyalty in return.
Magnus is also rather intelligent. He’s worldly and unabashedly himself. He’s the kind of presence that demands attention in the room, and he is completely unapologetic of the person that he is. He’s social and confident—drawing energy surrounded by others in the way that any true extrovert often does. He is an undeniably tactile person and is unafraid to venture into the personal space of another. Magnus is also extravagant in everything that he does, and it is rare to find him speaking without him gesturing with his hands.
For all of his better qualities though, he has plenty of flaws. Magnus often has a hard time taking some things seriously. He is the sort to make an ill-timed joke in a situation that hardly calls for one. In fact, he seems to take very little seriously unless it has something directly to do with himself. While this isn’t entirely the truth, he likes letting others believe it, and he would be lying if he claimed that he wasn’t often swayed by his own interests. He’s more inclined to go along with a plan or lending a hand if it gains him something after all. Magnus also isn’t above gloating a bit. Again, he is rather vain. He has no problems with singing his own praises when given the chance; it isn’t as if he is entirely undeserving of them after all.
He can be quite biting with his words—his tongue incredibly sharp when he chooses it to be. He doesn’t forgive or forget quickly. He will hold onto a grudge, and he has a tendency to write people off rather quickly. Magnus also can be rather secretive. For all that he enjoys hearing himself talk, his words aren’t always of great importance. He hides a lot about himself, even from the people that he cares for. He stubbornly makes every effort he can to leave his past where it is rather than bring it into his future by sharing it. This can make him seemed closed off and as if he doesn’t trust anyone, and perhaps in some ways that is the truth. For all the hurts he has experienced in the past, it isn’t surprising that he attempts to keep himself protected the best that he can.
Magnus was born at the beginning of the 16th century in the Dutch East Indies. He was born to simple parents—farmers who cared for and loved their son. However, that period of simplicity would be a brief one. By the time that he was ten years old, his warlock mark had developed. His cat-like eyes gave away what he was—the product of his mother’s union with a demon. Both his mother and step-father feared him for this, and this fear caused a young Magnus to hate himself for what he was. This hatred only grew when his mother hung herself in their barn rather than face what her son was. Shortly after this, blaming Magnus for the death of his wife, Magnus’ step-father attacked the ten year old boy in an attempt to drown him. Magnus lashed out with his powers, and killed the man in retaliation. Perhaps it was this that set the tone for the years that would follow—loss.
After the death of his mother and step-father, Magnus was sent to Madrid, Spain where he was raised by the Silent Brothers. Several things of note would happen while he stayed there during the 17th century. The first was that he would come to know who his father was—Asmodeus, Prince of Hell. He would also meet Catarina Loss, a fellow warlock. Magnus saved her from being burned as a witch. During this time he would also meet his first love, a woman named Catalina, who he stayed with until her death. After her death, Magnus traveled for a bit.
Those Who Followed
Ragnor Fell: Ragnor is one of Magnus’ closest friends and a fellow warlock. The two have been on various adventures with one another, but the best ones have always come from Peru. Their actions in Peru over the centuries have gotten Magnus banned from the country altogether. Catarina has been a part of some of these adventures as well, and together the three of them are a closely knit group.
Axel von Ferson: Count Axel con Ferson approached Magnus for help during the French Revolution. Magnus, captivated by the other man’s appearance, was quite charmed and agreed to help him in his plans to save the royal family. His captivation with the other man’s appearance led him into quite a bit of trouble, which Magnus managed to escape in a hot air balloon. His reward was a kiss from the count; however, Magnus had made himself enemies with the leader of a vampire clan that evening. As a result, he ultimately left Paris to stay in the Alps while the Revolution occurred.
Camille Belcourt: Magnus met Camille in London during the middle of the 19th century. He was immediately infatuated with her, but found himself not the only one who sought her attentions. A warewolf by the name of Ralf Scott also pursued the vampire. As Ralf was mortal, Magnus ultimately decided to let him have a chance at love with Camille. Magnus left to let the two pursue their relationship, but before he did, he gifted Camille with an enchanted necklace and a promise that they would meet again.
Just over twenty years later, the pair would meet again when Magnus returned to London. Ralf had been killed by another vampire, and so Magnus and Camille picked up their own relationship. Magnus also helped Camille in her plans to avenge Ralf’s death. It was in executing plans to take down Alexei de Quincey—the vampire Camille wanted revenge on—that Magnus met both Tessa Gray and Will Herondale. Working with Will, Tessa, and Camille, their plans to expose de Quincey were a success, and the vampire was ultimately killed. However, due to her involvement in his death, Camille was forced to leave London. Yet, she did not tell Magnus were she was leaving to. Still in love with her, he remained at her home to wait for her return. She eventually did return, but then lied to him about where she had been. Magnus had learned by then that she had been off with a mortal lover. Her lies and the truth of where she had been confirmed for him that Camille would never love him the way he loved her, and as a result, he ended their relationship.
Will Herondale: While Camille was off with her mortal lover, Will Herondale came to Magnus for help with breaking a curse that had been placed on him. The curse was meant to endanger the people that Will loved or was closer to. Magnus agreed to help will, and together they looked for the blue demon that had cursed Will. They had very little luck with summoning the demon that had cursed Will until one night, Will ran off after it. He showed up later where Magnus was staying, exhausted and injured. When he passed out, Magnus healed him of the poison that was in his body. It was at this time that Camille had returned to her home and lied about where she had been. Hurt, Magnus pretended to be in a relationship with the weakened Will in order to anger her.
After being kicked out by Camille, Magnus went to stay with a warewolf friend by the name of Woolsey Scott. While staying with him, he contacted Will and summoned the demon that had cursed the other man only to learn that curse itself had never truly existed. This painful knowledge hung heavily over their friendship, and the two would go their separate ways.
Tessa Gray: Some years after Magnus helped Will confront the demon who had “cursed” him, he was approached by Will and Tessa once again. Tessa’s fiancé, Jem Carstairs, had run out of the drug that he depended on to live. Tessa and Will wanted Magnus’ advice on what could possibly be done to save Jem. Magnus reluctantly agreed to help them both. In doing so, he found himself pulled into the fight again Mortmain and his army. After Tessa was kidnapped by Mortmain and his clockwork creatures, and Will went after her, Magnus worked with Henry Branwell to build a device that could help defeat Mortmain. The pair created a portal in order to transport the rest of the shadowhunters to Cadair Idris. Magnus went as well, and he found and freed Tessa and Will during the battle that followed.
Imasu Morales: After the mess with Mortmain, Magnus returned to Peru with Catarina and Ragnor. It was here that he met Imasu. The man was a musician, and Magnus took up playing in order to spend more time with the man. Music as it turned out was not his strong suit, but over time he grew to love Imasu in the way he had loved others in the past. However, in the end Imasu left him—adding another heartbreak to the Magnus’ past.
Raphael Santiago: After leaving Peru again, Magnus went to New York. During the 20s he ran a speakeasy, and was forced to close the portal to the Pandemonium that Aldous Nix opened in the Hotel Dumort. Years later, he would try his hand at detective work, and it was here that he would meet Raphael. He was hired by Raphael’s mother, Guadalupe Santiago, to find her son and help him. By the time Magnus reached the boy however, it had been too late. Raphael had already been turned into a vampire. Magnus did however arrive in time to stop the boy from killing himself, convincing him that there was still hope for him. He let Raphael stay with him for some time after that as the newly turned vampire learned to control his urges so that he could have a life again.
Caterina Loss: Having been a close friend of Magnus’ since he had saved her from being burnt at the stake, Magnus contacted her to erase his memories of Camille in the 20th century. This was prompted by the fact Camille and her vampires had been uncontrollably feeding on mundanes and killing them. The memories were too painful for Magnus to keep for himself.
Valentine Morganstern: When a young warewolf boy came to Magnus for help, the boy told him that his family had been kidnapped by Valentine. Magnus warned members of the New York Institute that the Circle was violating the Accords and then confronted Valentine himself. When he found the man, he was blinding a warewolf girl by placing silver coins on her eyes. He engaged Valentine in a fight upon coming across this sight, and fought with the man until others arrived. The fight cemented Magnus’ decision to remain in New York City as he could not run from the Circle. He became High Warlock of Brooklyn shortly after this.
Clary and Jocelyn Fray: After escaping from Valentine, Jocelyn Fray came to Magnus about removing her daughter’s inner eye in order to protect the girl. However, Magnus warned against this. He was worried it would kill Clary or drive her insane. Instead he devised a spell that would cause her to forget anything that she saw that was related to the shadowhunter world. He has been performing the spell on Clary every two years since she was a girl at Jocelyn’s request.
Magnus is currently residing in his Brooklyn loft. He accepts clients regularly, but it aware of the whispers being shared amongst the Downworlders—whispers of Valentine rising again. All too aware of what the man has done before, Magnus is keeping a close eye on the situation despite any claims of indifference that he might make.
